The auction for the second edition of WPL 2024 tournament is set to begin tomorrow

The WPL auction is well on track to take place tomorrow on December 9 in Mumbai as per the trend for the past few years. Some of the players have shown their phenomenal performance before the auction like Danielle Wyatt, who played a blistering knock of 75 runs in just 47 deliveries.

A total of 165 players will go under the hammer during the mini-auction which is to take place tomorrow, out of which 104 Indian players, 61 overseas and 15 from associate nations. Many prominent names such as the likes of Deandra Dottin, Dani Wyyat, and Kim Garth will be a part of this auction. Let’s have a look at who will emerge as the most sought players in the upcoming WPL auction:

1. Dani Wyatt

Dani Wyatt became only the third woman, after Harmanpreet Kaur and Suzie Bates. She is the first player across genders from England to play 150 T20Is. She scored 75 in just 47 balls on the Mumbai pitch to show the owners her game play and the reasons as to why she should have been there in the first place. The pocket dynamo from England will be one of the hot contenders in this WPL auction.

2. Deandra Dottin

Deandra Dottin is another experienced campaigner from the Caribbean Islands with ample experience playing T20 cricket. She was the first woman cricketer from the West Indies to score a century in T20Is and was selected in the first ever WPL auction last year for INR 60 lakhs, but wasn't able to play under controversial circumstances. This year again she will be a top contender to get picked in this year's WPL.

3. Chamari Athapaththu

Chamari Athapaththu is a Sri Lankan veteran and captain of Sri Lanka national cricket team. She is an attacking opener, who can devastate the opposition's bowling attack with her batting skills. Currently, she has been in a great form and has performed for both Sri Lanka national team and her franchise in WBBL which makes her another contender for tomorrow’s auction.

4. Shabnam Ismail

Shabnam Ismail, recently retired from international cricket is known for her raw pace and rattles the batting attack with sheer pace. She played an integral part in the South Africa national team’s journey to the finals of the T20 World Cup 2023 and last year played for Gujarat Giants in WPL. Although she was released earlier this year she will again be a good choice in this year’s WPL auction.

Devika Vaidya

Devika Vaidya offers excellent wrist spin bowling skills along with excellent batting proficiency. With 17 T20Is and 12 ODIs under her belt, she already represented India, securing a notable 22 wickets across both formats. In addition, she contributed significantly as a batter, accumulating a total of 269 international runs, which includes an impressive half-century in ODIs. This underscores her value as a highly skilled and versatile asset.
