Amid all the hopes and hypes which were created around World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final, it eventually turned out to be a one-sided affair as Australia defeated India by a humongous margin of 209 runs on Sunday in the summit clash at The Oval. After winning the toss, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma decided to bowl first considering the overcast conditions but the plan eventually seemed to have backfired as the Pat Cummins-led side finished the first day at 327/3.

This dent caused on the first day was so huge in the context of the game that the Indian team was always playing catch up for the rest of the Test match, eventually falling short on the final day, chasing the uphill task of 444 runs to win. Later on, addressing the media after the loss, the skipper Rohit Sharma disclosed the team’s vision for the upcoming Cricket World Cup (CWC) which is set to be played later this year in India. Rohit stated that the team will be going to play with a different mindset altogether in the CWC.

This event is important and things are not happening: Rohit Sharma

The 36-year-old also spoke about the change in approach to which the team will be adhering and also that the team management plans to give the players the freedom to play and not think about the results.

“When the World Cup will be held in October, we will try to play in a different way. We will try to give people freedom and not think that we have to win this or that match. We have been thinking that this match is important, this event is important and things are not happening. So obviously, we will have to think differently and do things differently. Our message and focus will be on trying to do something different,” Rohit said.

The star Indian batter also pointed out that in the second innings, both Shubman Gill and himself started off with a positive mindset and hence scored 60 runs in 10 overs. But the Indian skipper also mentioned that there is a problem with this approach because if one gets, people would feel that there is a lapse of concentration. According to the flamboyant Indian opener, it is not a lapse in concentration but just a different mindset to playing the game.

Rohit also mentioned the fact that the team has played so many major tournaments but has not yet won. And hence, the plan this time around will be to play in a different way and look to try something different.
