After his constant struggles against short balls, Shreyas Iyer lost his place in India’s T20 team. However, the injury to Deepak Hooda has helped the batter get another chance. He has been included in India’s squad for the T20I series against South Africa.
In the recent video that he posted on his Instagram account on Friday (September 30), Shreyas Iyer was seen toiling it hard, doing athletics and stretching exercises. Shreyas Iyer was seen sweating it out and looks fit to don the team India jersey once again. Here’s the video:

Shreyas Iyer in standby for the 20-20 World Cup 2022
Shreyas Iyer is also on the standby list of players for the 20-20 World Cup 2022. The Indian batter would look to make an impression in the ongoing series against the Proteas. Speaking of the series, Umesh Yadav and Shahbaz Ahmed have also joined the squad as replacements for Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya.
While Hardik Pandya is sent to the national academy in Bangalore for conditioning work, Mohammed Shami is yet to recover from post-Covid issues. With an opportunity at hand, Shreyas Iyer alongside the other two would look to make an impression.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Umesh Yadav as Shami’s replacement and Shreyas Iyer as a replacement for Hooda. Shahbaz Ahmed has also been added to the T20I squad,” the Indian cricket board said in the official statement.
In other news, Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the series due to a back stress fracture. The Indian cricket board has not officially ruled him out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. However, there were reports that claimed that the pacer might well be out of the tournament.
The second T20 international between India and South Africa is slated to be played on Sunday in Guwahati.
