Watch: Iftikhar Ahmed lights up SCG with mammoth 106-metre six against South Africa in 20-20 World Cup 2022

Ifthikar Ahmed produced a stroke filled half century at the Sydney Cricket Ground and hit a 106 metre six that lit up the SCG.

Pakistan and South Africa locked horns with each other at the Sydney Cricket Ground as this was a do-or-die clash for the Men in Green. They got off to a poor start as they lost Mohammad Rizwan early. Mohammad Harris entertained with his quickfire knock of 28 runs off 11 balls with two fours and three sixes.

Then Pakistan lost four wickets quickly with the score at 95-5. Pakistan were staring down the barrel but they clawed their way back into the contest with stunning rearguard action from Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan who scored 51 from 35 balls with three fours and two sixes and 52 off just 22 balls with three fours and four sixes.

During the course of his innings, in the 16th over he hit a massive 106-metre maximum off Lungi Ngidi. The ball was a short one he really packed a lot of power into it and deposited it into the crowd. This was one of the biggest sixes of the Super 12 stage of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He lit up the SCG with his big hitting.

The partnership between Ifthikar and Shadab not only made a great recovery for Pakistan as they came back into the game but also ensured that the Men in Green had a strong finish as they ended up on 185-9 in their 20 overs.  In the second innings, Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan combined to pick up the wickets of Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw and Temba Bauma and Aiden Markram to keep the Proteas down to 69-4 in nine overs.

The rain came down and the game was reduced to 14 overs.The revised target for South Africa is 73 runs off 30 balls. The SCG witnessed power hitting of the highest order from Pakistan and the crowd at the ground were entertained to the fullest. Pakistan and South Africa have produced great clashes in big events over the years and this was yet another instance at the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
