The 16th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is continuing to give exposure to fine talents while also engaging the spectators with exciting on-field action. Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Prabhsimran Singh's innings against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday was an illustration of this, as the young man saved his side from a huge trouble and with his maiden IPL century.
The Punjab-born cricketer made his IPL debut for PBKS in 2019, but has made sporadic appearances for the franchise over these years. However, Prabhsimran was given the opportunity to appear in all 12 games for the Mohali-based team this season, and he proved his worth with his solid top-order performances.
The 22-year-old is garnering appreciation from the cricket fraternity for his impressive performance at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, becoming the first centurion of PBKS in IPL 2023. The visitors lost three key wickets in the powerplay and needed someone to save them from a collapse. Prabhsimran had a slow start to his innings as wickets kept falling at one end, but accelerated at the perfect time to post a competitive total of 167.
Meanwhile, following Prabhsimran's match-winning knock, an old video of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar praising him is making the rounds on social media. "Prabhsimran is one to watch out for. His backlift and bat swing is free flowing. When the ball hits his bat, and the sound it creates is quite amazing," the former Indian batter said ahead of the 2020 IPL season.

I really liked what I saw of @prabhsimran01 in @lionsdenkxip’s previous game.

'He proved his talent today': Virender Sehwag
When the rest of the batters struggled to get runs on a tricky pitch, Prabhsimran struck 103 off 65 with six sixes and ten fours. His one-man fight kept PBKS alive in the tournament while knocking DC out of the playoff race. His stunning innings also impressed former India opener Virender Sehwag, who praised the young talent for grabbing the opportunity with both hands.
“Punjab Kings have benefitted from the chances that they’ve given to Prabhsimran. Now, he has to be consistent. And I think the PBKS will benefit a lot from such a player. When he came for the first time, he was bought for a lot of money (INR 4.8 crore). This time around, he fetched quite less (INR 60 lakh). But he proved his talent today, Sehwag said.
“He showed that he can hit those centuries. Again, he was bought for INR 60 lakh, and if a player fetching that much scores hundreds and wins you a couple of games, there can be nothing better than that," he added.
