In the 59th game of the ongoing IPL 2023, Delhi Capitals played hosts to Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Ahead of the game, the home team, DC has lost by a fair margin against Chennai Super Kings. On the other hand, PBKS came off two back-to-back losses and they needed to win to remain in the playoffs race.

Meanwhile, in the game, the Blye brigade, Capitals won the toss and elected to bowl first. They had a good start with the ball as they took three wickets for 45 runs. However, for the Red Army, the likes of Prabhsimran Singh and Sam Curran put together 72 runs. While the latter struggled, Singh kept going well with the bat.

In the end, the right-hander went on to hit his maiden IPL hundred. This inning helped the team reach 167/7 on a dry and turning wicket. For the David Warner-led side, Ishant Sharma took two wickets while Axar Patel, Praveen Dubey, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mukesh Kumar took one each.

Delhi Capitals had a great start but lost their way

In reply, the 2020 finalists had a great start as the likes of skipper Warner and Phil Salt put together 69 runs in just 6.1 overs. However, on the second ball of the seventh over, Harpreet Brar went through Salt. This led to a collapse. From 69/0, the team was reduced to 88/6 with Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar wreaking havoc.

The latter took four wickets and registered his best spell of this IPL career (30/4). On the other hand, Chahar took two wickets. This ensured that the 2014 finalists will win the game and remain alive in the playoffs race. In the end, the home team ended up getting only 136/8, losing the game by 31 runs. With this loss, DC has become the first team to be crashed out of the tournament.

On the other hand, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side's NRR has improved. However, they would also need to win their remaining two games to reach the playoffs.
