The inaugural Women's T20 League kicked off on Saturday with a glamorous opening ceremony at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The leaders of all five participating teams unveiled the competition's trophy. Bollywood stars Kiara Advani, Kriti Sanon, and AP Dhillion lit up the stage during the Women's T20 League opening ceremony with scorching performances. The trophy was then unveiled to the captains and Indian Cricket Board officials.
In India, the Women's Premier League was a much-anticipated advancement for women's cricket. A week-long Women's T20 Competition with four teams was held earlier, between the Indian T20 League schedule. Twenty league games and two playoff games will be contested in the Women's T20 League over the course of 23 days. 87 female cricket players will compete in the tournament's maiden season.
Women's T20 League will be played in two stadiums in Mumbai
Each of the five teams will play the other twice during the 22-game season before the eliminator match on March 24 chooses the second team for the final on March 26. On March 21 at the Brabourne Stadium, UP and Delhi will meet in the last match of the league stages. On March 26, the Women's T20 League Final will be held at Brabourne Stadium.
Five teams—Delhi, Gujarat, Mumbai, Bangalore, and UP—spent a lot of cash on the inaugural Women's T20 League edition's players' auction to bring in some of the top players on the national and international circuits into their squads. India star batter Smriti Mandhana remained the most expensive purchase, robbed by Bangalore for a staggering 3.40 crores.
Talking of the opening ceremony, it featured standout performances by Bollywood actresses Kriti Sanon and Kiara Advani, as well as famous vocalist AP Dhillon. While Kriti's rendition of "Chak De India" left everyone speechless, Kiara opened the show with covers of her hit songs. Both actresses were cheered on by the audience as they danced to their major hits. AP Dhillon has already garnered a lot of buzz on social media with his talk with cricketers Jemimah Rodrigues and Harleen Deol, and his performance did not disappoint.
