In the 11th match of the WPL, RCB toppled the UPW by 23 runs to get back to winning ways after two consecutive defeats. On the other hand, UPW who won their last two matches couldn’t able to maintain their winning run and perished against RCB on the back of their lackluster bowling and fielding.
After losing the toss, RCB was put into bat by the UPW on a placid Chinnaswamy track who made the most of it. RCB came in with a new opening pair of Sabbhineni Meghana and Smriti Mandhana who gave RCB a solid start at put by 50 runs on board in just 5 overs. As soon as the first wicket fell, Ellyse Perry joined Madhana who then put on a batting masterclass between them and stitched a 95-run stand for the 3rd wicket.
Smriti Mandhana stole the show at the Chinnaswamy stadium with her blistering hitting along with Ellyse Perry. Mandhana smashed the UP bowlers all-around the park in her innings of 80 runs off just 50 balls which included 10 boundaries and 3 maximums. Perry also complemented her pretty well and smashed her 1st half-century of the season consisting of boundaries and an equal amount of sixes.
Healy valiant knock goes in vain
While chasing a mammoth target of 199 runs, UPW got off to a flying start with 47 runs in just 4 overs but the target proved to be too much for the UP batters who eventually fell short of the target by 23 runs. UPW's captain Allysa Healy played a valiant knock of 55 runs off just 38 deliveries and she kept UP in the game till she was there but when she got out it was all curtains for UPW.
Deepti Sharma (33) and Poonam Khemnar (31) took the UP score close to the RCB target which prevented their NRR from taking a hit. It was an all-round bowling effort by the RCB as Sophie Devine, Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham, and Asha Sobhana took 2 wickets each and never let UPW batters off the hook.
