In the 8th match of the WPL 2024, the UP Warriorz toppled Gujarat Giants by 6 wickets to make it two consecutive wins in two matches. After losing the initial two matches, UPW have made a great comeback into the tournament, whereas for GG, it is looking like the same story as last season as they have lost 3 matches on the trot this season so far.

Alyssa Healy led UPW won the toss and chose to bowl first which has been a trend in this year’s WPL. GG came in with a new opening pair in the form of Laura Wolvaardt and Beth Mooney and though both got an opening stand of 40 runs the UP bowlers never let them set free.

It is GG’s third different opening combination in the three matches and still, they haven’t been able to find a settled batting combination. Phoebe Litchfield and Ashleigh Gardner gave the Gujarat innings the much needed momentum and stitched a 50-run stand for the 4th wicket in a brisk manner. Sophie Ecclestone was the pick of the bowlers for UP who took 3 wickets and gave just 20 runs in her 4 overs to stop GG at a modest total of only 142 runs.

Grace Harris seals the deal for UPW

Chasing a modest total of 143 runs, UP came in all guns blazing with their explosive opening combo of Alyssa Healy and Kiran Navgire who again stitched a brisk opening stand of 40 runs in no time. Alyssa Healy again got a good start and got 33 runs in just 21 deliveries.

However, UPW’s innings got a slight hiccup in the middle when they lost two quick wickets and were left at 90/4. But Grace Harris continued her sublime form in the tournament and steered UPW home in just 15.4 overs. She remained unbeaten on 60 off just 33 deliveries and her innings included 9 fours and two sixes.

Fans who were following the matches expressed their views on the result on social media.
