Rohit Sharma is back as the captain of the T20I side ahead of the three-match series against South Africa in a move to confirm his captaincy during the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Rohit Sharma is back in the T20I side and is set to lead the Indian team in the three-match series against South Africa. This news also means that Rohit Sharma is set to be the skipper for the Indian team during the 2024 T20 World Cup in June.

As per reports it is believed that KL Rahul could be named the stand-in skipper of the ODI side. This comes as a major surprise as it was expected Rohit Sharma will be the captain of the 50-format as well.

The Indian selectors met on Thursday to pick the Indian squad for the South African tour starting next week. Virat Kohli has already made it known that he will not be playing the white ball series during the South African tour.

Rohit Sharma to lead the Indian T20I set-up

Indian cricket rejoiced at the fact that Rohit Sharma was chosen as the skipper of the T20I side. The 36-year-old is set to captain Team India during the three-match T20I series against South Africa starting on 10th December.

KL Rahul has been chosen as the skipper of the ODI side in what looks like a move to rest Rohit Sharma before the test series. As per reports, Rohit will be back in the captaincy saddle for the two-match test series against Proteas. 

The move was widely expected after Rahul Dravid had extended his contract till the 2024 T20 World Cup. it is believed that the Indian Cricket Board wants the Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma combination to do wonders during the 2024 T20 World Cup in June.

Star batter Virat Kohli will be back for the test series after skipper the white ball format. The former India skipper is in London with his family enjoying time away from the sport after the ODI World Cup 2023.
