Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli is set to take an extended leave of absence from the white ball format. The 35-year-old has had a word with the Indian Cricket Board that he is set to skip the ODI and T20 series against South Africa.

Team India is set to play 3 ODI games and 3 T20 games before playing 2 test matches during the tour of South Africa. Virat Kohli has also notified the selectors that he is set to play the test series.

Rohit Sharma meanwhile is likely to be spoken to by the Indian Cricket Board. There is a feeling that Rohit Sharma could be asked to lead the T20 side. The 36-year-old could be asked to prolong his T20I career in a bid to lead India in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Indian Cricket Board has been notified by Virat Kohli of his absence from the ODI and T20 series in South Africa. The former India skipper is in London with his family spending some time away from the game after the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.

Virat Kohli was the lead run-scorer during the tournament with over 765 runs including scoring his 50th ODI century. There is some good news though that Virat Kohli will be in line to make his comeback for the test series against the Proteas side.

The Indian selectors are set to pick the team for South Africa on Thursday. It is expected that Rohit Sharma will be leading the ODI and Test match sides. There is still a mystery about who will be leading the Indian T20 side.

Rahul Dravid’s contract renewal has raised hopes of Rohit Sharma leading the T20 side. If the 36-year-old decides to skip the T20 series, Suryakumar Yadav will be leading the side. Hardik Pandya is still not fit to play after his injury during the ODI World Cup 2023 game against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, there is also speculation regarding the future of Ajinkya Rahane in the test format. The 35-year-old could lose his spot in the team after the return of Shreyas Iyer to the team. The anticipation is running as the five-wise men of Indian Cricket sit down to pick the squad for the biggest tour of 2023.
