West finally won their first white-ball match of the Australian summer as they clinched victory in the final T20I of the three-match series by 37 runs at the Optus Stadium in Perth. After levelling the Test series by 1-1, West Indies lost the One Day series by 3-0 and eventually lost the T20I series by 2-1.

In the 3rd T20I, West Indies won the toss and elected to bat which turned out to be a really good decision as they posed a mammoth 220 runs on the board despite being 17 for 3 courtesy of Sherfane Rutherford and Andre Russell’s scintillating knocks. Rutherford scored 67 off 40 balls whereas Russell played a 71-run screamer in just 29 deliveries.

Australia never looked in the chase

In reply, Australia got off to a swift start on the back of David Warner’s 81-run knock in 49 balls but it was never going to be enough as no other batter could get going expect from Tim David who hit some fours and sixes towards the end only to create some artificial excitement towards the end.

In the end, Australia could manage only 183 runs in their quota of 20 overs and won the match by 37 runs. Australia eventually won the series by 2-1. It was a momentous occasion as it was David Warner’s last international outing on his home turf. David Warner has officially retired from the Tests and is expected to retire from the white ball format too after the T20 World Cup which is scheduled to take place in June later this year.
