New Zealand vs Pakistan 2nd T20I

The 2nd T20I ended up being another disappointing outing for Pakistan who are now trailing by 2-0 against New Zealand in the 5-match T20I series. The first innings once again saw New Zealand take apart the Pakistan bowling attack scoring 194 runs in the first innings on the back of a brilliant 74 from 41 deliveries by Finn Allen and great cameos from Kane Williamson and Mitchell Santner. None of the Pakistan bowlers looked threatening at all apart from Haris Rauf who took 3 wickets to keep New Zealand under 200. The Kiwis might have faltered a bit at the end but still managed to put a big total on the board.

The Pakistaninnings went nowhere as they got all out for 173 with 3 balls to spare and started terribly by losing their openers quickly. The Kiwi bowlers looked much better compared to the Pakistan attack, where Adam Milne was the star with the ball taking 4/33 in his 4 overs on what was a great pitch to bat on. None of the Pakistan batters could make a difference except for Pakistan star batters Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman who scored great half-centuries to keep Pakistan in the game. However, their contributions went in vain as Pakistan lost the game by 21 runs.

Pakistan pace attack leaking runs

There might be a lot of things that are going wrong for Pakistan in this series so far, but it is the pace attack which has not been at its best. The likes of Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf have been known to strike fear in the batters, but they have not been at their best when it comes to their economic rate. The likes of Shaheen Afridi who has been one of their top-ranked bowlers going for 9 and 10 per over is not acceptable, especially as Pakistan captain. Aamer Jamal might have done well in the Test matches vs Australia, but his performance in this series so far has been extremely underwhelming.

This is really disappointing for a side whose pace attack was said to be one of the best just months ago and was feared by the batters. This performance by both the batters and the bowlers has not been the best. Shaheen Afridi and his men have to come back stronger in the next game to have some chance of winning the series. This is probably the worst start for Shaheen as a skipper and he will know that he has to step up his game as a leader and try to make a strong return in this series against the mighty New Zealand team.
