Gautam Gambhir stated Rohit Sharma's captaincy after the ODI World Cup final 2023. The former Indian cricketer found no flaws in Rohit's captaincy. The mentor of KKR felt that Rohit was outstanding as a batter and as a leader in the ODI World Cup 2023. Gambhir praised Rohit for winning 5 trophies in the Indian Premier League.

The former Indian batter felt that losing one game in the final would not make Rohit a bad captain. "One bad game which was the final doesn't make Rohit Sharma a bad captain. He has won 5 IPL trophies. He was outstanding in the World Cup," said Gambhir. The statement from Gambhir came while he was on a podcast recently. The interviewer asked him questions on several aspects.

"Rohit has done a very good job as captain, not easy to win 5 IPL, the way India dominated the last WC, before the final, I say the same, whatever be the result in the final, India played like champions & one bad game doesn't make Rohit bad captain - if you call Rohit bad captain or side as bad team then it's not fair," added Gambhir about Sharma's captaincy.

'Rohit Sharma's place not assured in T20 World Cup 2024' - Jay Shah

Gambhir was asked about his return to Kolkata Knight Riders as a mentor. In the podcast, Gambhir was asked about his association with KKR and Shah Rukh Khan. Further, the question arises about India's campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023. In the process, Gambhir happened to talk about the captaincy of Rohit in the tournament. Gambhir praised the Indian team for the campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Jay Shah said that there is no need to give clarity on India's captaincy for the T20 World Cup 2024, as it will be held in June. "What is the need to have clarity right now? It (T20 World Cup) is starting in June, we have the IPL before that and the series against Afghanistan," said Shah. He further added that the spot of Rohit is not yet assured in the T20 World Cup 2024.
