Rohit Sharma smashed his 11th test century in Test cricket against England at Rajkot. India won the toss and decided to bat on a batting-friendly Rajkot wicket. But the English pacers took advantage of the tinge of grass on the surface and the initial moisture of the wicket and left India reeling at 33 for 3.

But Indian coach Rahul Dravid played a smart move and sent Ravindra Jadeja ahead of debutant Sarfara Khan which paid dividends and the veteran of Indian cricket stitched a 180-run partnership between them which is still going.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma was the pick of the Indian batters who scored his 11th test century when it mattered the most and proved why he is at present the best test batter of this Indian team. Before the match, Rohit was put into question for his string of low scores in the test format and given the inexperienced middle order, a big innings was the need of the hour from Rohit Sharma to which the 36-year batter obliged.

Rohit Sharma and Jadeja steadied India after a shaky start

Rohit Sharma maintained a good strike rate throughout his innings despite a shaky start by India. He took on the attack to the English spinners Tom Hartley and Rehan Ahmed and used his feet to perfection to get to his ton. Ravindra Jadeja who was coming back after a hamstring injury also played a sensible knock along with Rohit Sharma and brought out another fifty on his home ground.

The series is lying 1-1 in balance and whoever will win this match will have a good chance to win the series. Despite winning the toss, the Indian top order wasn’t able to make the most of the batting-friendly conditions.

Mark Wood who was also making a comeback in the match made early inroads in the Indian batting order by picking the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) and Shubman Gill (0) early. Rajat Patidar (5) was also not able to make the most out of the opportunity and succumbed to Tom Hartley.
