Asia Cup 2022 will get underway on August 27, 2022. India will face Pakistan in their first outing in UAE. Asia Cup is one of the most reputed tournaments that is played between the cricketing nations of Asia.
The upcoming Asia Cup will be held in a T20I format. And the last time Asia Cup was held in T20I format was way back in the year 2016. India and Sri Lanka are the two of the most dominating nations in the history of the tournament. It will be interesting to see who takes the trophy this time around.
Let's take a look at three records that are still held by India and the Indian players in the tournament.
1) MOST NUMBER OF TITLES - INDIA (7):
India have been fantastic when it comes to the Asia Cup. They have appeared in finals ten times. Out of the ten times that they have appeared, India have won the title 7 times. This is a record that will take a lot of time to break.
Given the kind of form they are in, India currently look favourites to win the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 title for the 8th time.
2) HIGHEST INDIVIDUAL SCORE - VIRAT KOHLI (INDIA):
Virat Kohli holds the record for the highest individual score in an Asia Cup tournament's history. His highest ODI score of 183 came against Pakistan in the year 2012. The batter has been out of form, of late, but this remains one of the best innings of the Indian legend.
The Delhi-based batter was in top notch form in the year 2012. And the Asia Cup nations witnessed one of the best innings in the history of the tournament. This record held by Virat Kohli is something that cannot be broken at least for time being.
3) HIGHEST WIN PERCENTAGE - INDIA (66%):
India have won the most number of matches in the Asia Cup history. The Men in Blue boast of the highest win percentage. Out of the 54 matches that India have played, India have managed to win 36 of them. Sri Lanka rank just below India with 35 wins out of 54 that they have played.
India have a slender lead but the record is likely to be held by them at the end of the tournament, given the kind of form that they are in. Sri Lanka will have to fight harder in the upcoming edition to surpass India.
