‘The girls making India proud’ – Fans react to Indian Women’s cricket team reaching the Asian Games Final

The Indian eves swept aside the Bangladeshi team in the semi-finals of The Asian Games 2023. It was an easy win for Smriti Mandhana and her side as they beat Bangladesh by 8 wickets. This win has now guaranteed the Indian team a medal with the final to be played on Monday

The second Semi-Finals will witness Pakistan taking on Sri Lanka. This has created a chance for an India versus Pakistan final in the Asian Games Women’s Cricket competition. This is the first time Indian cricket is taking part in the Asian Games tournament.

Nigar Sultana the Bangladeshi captain won the toss and chose to bat first. The match was played at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou, China. India had reached the semi-finals after their previous game against Malaysia was washed out. Bangladesh had reached the final four after their game was called off against Hong Kong.

Indian women steamroll past Bangladesh –

Election to bat, Bangladesh were all out for just 51 runs in the 18th over. Nigar Sultana was the sole batter to reach double figures. The Bangladeshi skipper scored 12 runs from 17 balls. Only 4 boundaries were hit in the entire Bangladeshi innings.

Pooja Vastrakar started the damage when she claimed three early wickets. The medium pace bowler got four wickets for 17 runs from her 4 overs. Apart from Deepti Sharma, every Indian bowler picked up a wicket.

Chasing 52 to win, India lost two wickets. The first wicket to fall was that of Smriti Mandhana the captain for 7. Shafali Varma was out for 17 off 20 balls with 2 hits to the fence. Jemimah Rodrigues was not out on 20 from 15 balls with 3 fours as India won the game by 8 wickets.

The other semi-final game will be played on Sunday between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The loser of that game will play Bangladesh in the Bronze Medal match on Monday. Post the bronze medal game, the focus will shift to the gold medal match.

The cricket-crazy fans of India and Pakistan hope it will be a memorable day of cricket if the two teams play each other in the final.
