'The form he is in he should have scored...' - Virender Sehwag gives his opinion on Shubman Gill's knock against Australia in second ODI

Shubman Gill scored a hundred against Australia in the second ODI in Indore. It was the sixth ODI hundred of the youngster’s career. The Indian batter played some classical drives and impressed everyone with his batsmanship. While a hundred against Australia was a very good feat, the former India cricketer Virender Sehwag was not completely satisfied with Gill’s knock. 

The former India opener felt that Gill should have gone on to score a big knock for the form he is in. “He missed out last time but ensured that he got his hundred today, but I would still say that the form he is in he should have scored 160 or 180. He is now just 25,” said Sehwag speaking about Gill’s knock against Australia in Indore.  

The former India captain said that Gill should have continued and scored 200 at the young age, as doing so in the later part of the career would have been difficult. “Had he scored 200 today then he wouldn't have become tired and could have fielded as well. At 30, he would have found it difficult because he wouldn't have recovered. So, it is better to score big runs now,” added Sehwag.

Sehwag felt that with 18 overs remaining in the match, Gill should not have thrown away his wicket. “When you are in form, and you are scoring runs then don't throw your wicket away. When he got out, there were 18 overs remaining. Had he played for 9-10 overs more he could have completed his second double hundred,” said the former aggressive batter from Delhi.  

Sehwag gave his own example of scoring a double hundred at the same venue against West Indies and Rohit Sharma’s example of scoring three double hundred as feats to be pulled off by Gill. “Rohit Sharma scored three double hundreds. He had the opportunity today. A 200 has been scored at this venue by a player named Sehwag, because it is that sort of a track,” concluded Sehwag.
