India and Sri Lanka faced off in the finals of the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 on October 15, Saturday and the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team got off to a great start with the ball. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Sri Lankan women’s team started crumbling right away.

Renuka Singh Thakur, the Indian pacer, was breathing fire right from ball one. After producing a stellar throw to run out the Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu, Renuka carried on with the momentum and produced a tremendous first spell.

Renuka picked up two wickets in two consecutive balls in her second over and put Sri Lanka on the back foot. The fiery bowler removed Harshitha Madavi and Hasini Perera in the over and conceded one wide. The pacer bagged another wicket in the third over of her spell as she sent Kavisha Dilhari back to the pavilion.

Renuka picked up 3 wickets and conceded only 5 runs at the end of her first spell. The Sri Lankan team looked clueless against the pacer and struggled to come up with the right shots.

The epic collapse of Sri Lanka

The batters from the Island Nation put on great effort to get a move on after losing half of the team at the end of six overs. However, much to the dreariness of the team management, Sri Lanka lost more wickets in quick succession and ended up scoring 65/9 at the end of the first innings. To make it worse, the poor running between the wickets cost Sri Lanka two of their wickets.

During the toss, Harmanpreet said that the team will do all it takes to win the title and emphasized the team's strength. The Indian skipper seconded the Sri Lankan skipper’s opinion and said that they will look to restrict Sri Lanka within 130 runs. “We have a great side. Everybody is doing their job. As Chamari said, 130 will be a decent total on this wicket and we want to stop them below that. Radha isn't playing, Hemalatha comes in,” Harmanpreet said during the toss.
