The battle between India and Australia has heated up at the Oval, with the latter setting a mammoth target of 444 in the last innings to determine the champions of Test cricket. Australia managed to score some quick runs on Day 4 and declared their innings at 270-8. India, meanwhile, got off to a good start as openers showed the intent right from the start. However, the Aussie bowlers took back control with back-to-back wickets.

While the rivalry between two of international cricket's giants continues on the field, cricket fans witnessed a heartwarming scene in the stands. An Indian fan was caught on camera proposing to his girlfriend during India's second innings. The girl accepted the proposal, and the man put a ring on her finger before kissing her.

The incident took place in the fifth over when Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were batting, and former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who was in the commentary box, said “People will do anything to come on the television”. The couple drew everyone's attention, and pictures and videos of them are going viral on social media.

Check out the proposal video and some great fan reactions:

This is not the first time we've seen cricket fans propose during live matches. Some fans also show their love for cricketers by showing placards or banners to the camera from the stands. A similar incident took place on Day 3 of the WTC final when a fan girl of Shubman Gill posed with a placard asking the India opener to marry her. The girl was seen holding a banner with the message “Marry Me Subhman” and a love emoji.

India lost three wickets in quick succession

Talking about the match, chasing a huge total in the final innings, Rohit and Gill provided India with a perfect start, but the momentum switched again when Australia got quick wickets. Gill was caught at slip by Cameron Green off Scott Boland, but the catch sparked controversy as TV replays appeared to show it had been grassed.

Rohit and Cheteshwar Pujara then steadied the ship but Nathan Lyon trapped the captain in front of the stumps. He fell for 43 after adding 50 runs with Pujara. Pat Cummins gave India another heartbreak by dismissing Pujara in the very next over. However, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane are playing with intent and Indian fans are hoping that the duo will form a formidable partnership.
