Despite ban India will take Sri Lanka tour for a limited-overs series post T20 World Cup 2024

Following the T20 World Cup 2024 held in the US and West Indies, India is scheduled to embark on a tour to Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series comprising 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is, despite a ban imposed on them by Apex Governing Council.

India is one of those nations that play the most number of matches throughout the year and whose calendar is mostly remains packed throughout the year. Apart from a packed schedule, a two-month IPL window also keeps the Indian players engaged throughout the year. 

Apex Governing Council also now holds one tournament every year which becomes the highlight of the year. In 2024, in addition to the IPL and the T20 World Cup, the Indian team is scheduled to play 52 International matches which include 10 Test, 21 ODIs, and 21 T20I matches.

India’s matches in 2024 will kick off from the last test match in Cape Town of India’s tour to South Africa which will commence in the December month of 2023 with 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is followed by two tests that will end in January.

India will tour Sri Lanka despite the ban

Sri Lanka is going through economic and political turmoil and its cricket board is no different as the Apex Cricket Council has banned Sri Lankan Cricket immediately due to excessive political interference in their board and cricketing activities.

But despite the ban Sri Lanka will adhere to all their bilateral commitments and will be able to take part in the Under 19 World Cup. The Indian team is also scheduled to tour to Sri Lanka to play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs just after the T20 World Cup in July and August. 

The CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket Ashoka de Silva while announcing the schedule of Sri Lanka Cricket for 2024 expressed his joy and said that Sri Lanka Cricket is looking forward to exciting times as they have a packed competitive schedule ahead.

He said, “We are heading into a highly exciting year with a lot of international cricket to be played, which augurs well for us, as our team will be engaged in competitive cricket year around"

 “The 2024 calendar is expected to give our players a lot of playing opportunities, fans entertainment, and our sponsors great exposure,” he added.
