A piece of shocking news awaits all the cricket fans. The International Cricket Board has decided to suspend the membership of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board for an indefinite time. The move of the apex board comes following the resignation of the entire Sri Lankan Board. Sri Lanka is currently having their worst time in Cricket and things are getting tougher for them.

Sri Lanka won just two matches in the ODI World Cup 2023. It was their worst-ever performance in an ODI World Cup since 1999. Sri Lanka was bundled out for just 55 runs by the Indian team, which marked the lowest score by the team in the history of the World Cup. They lost the match by 302 runs and faced their biggest defeat in the history of the ODI World Cup.

Following the embarrassment, the entire Sri Lankan Board stepped down. As a result, the International Cricket Board had no choice but to terminate the membership of the Asian side. In its statement, the International Cricket Board said that the terms and conditions of the suspension are to be decided and announced soon. It leads to a big question mark of Sri Lanka's future in Cricket.

Breach of obligations as a member board

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board was one of the member boards of the apex board. For a member board, there is a basic responsibility to fulfil. However, the stepping down of the entire board is seen as a lapse in the functioning of the board. The members of the Apex Board met today and decided on Sri Lanka's future. The meeting concluded that there was a serious breach of obligations of the member board.

In its statement, the Apex Board said that the Sri Lankan Board has failed to manage the requirements like handling autonomous affairs, ensuring the safety of the sport away from the government, administration of the sport in the country, and regulation of cricket. These are cited as some of the reasons behind the termination of the board by the apex board.
