India sealed the second match of the series against Australia and won the series with a match to go. On a good batting surface in Indore, India defeated Australia by 99 runs. With a game to go, India has won the series. Ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup, India has decided to rest some of its players for the third ODI against Australia. According to reports, two players will be rested for the third ODI.  

Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur are set to be rested for the third ODI against Australia, according to the reports. The two Indian players played the first two ODIs against Australia. To give them a short break ahead of the big tournament, the Indian management has decided to rest them in the third ODI, which is set to take place in Rajkot. 

Gill is currently in a fine form going into the ODI World Cup 2023. In the Asia Cup 2023, Gill was the leading run scorer in the tournament. In the ongoing series against Australia, Gill is the leading run scorer in the two matches. Since Gill is in fine touch and has been playing in the team without any break, the management has probably decided to rest the young batter.

Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Virat Kohli to return in third ODI against Australia

On the other hand, Thakur has not been that good in the two matches he played against Australia. In the first ODI, Shardul turned out to be the only weak link in the Indian attack. In the second ODI, the medium pacer was expensive against Australia. So, the decision to give Shardul a break might have more to do with his bad performances than the concerns of resting him.  

For the third ODI in Rajkot, the senior players like Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Rohit Sharma will be back. With the series already won by the Indian tram, it is interesting to see whether the senior players will play the third ODI in Rajkot. The management might like to test some of its less experienced players.
