After two successful editions of the Lanka Premier League, Sri Lanka Cricket is all set to stage the tournament's third season, starting on 31st July 2022. In a major development, Kandy Falcons have roped in talented Sri Lankan opener, Pathum Nissanka, in their squad for the upcoming edition.
Since making his debut for Sri Lanka, Pathum Nissanka has only scaled upwards in his international cricket career. The 24-year-old opener now represents the Sri Lankan Cricket team in all formats. So far in his international cricket career, he has played 8 Tests, 17 ODIs, and 23 T20 internationals.
He will be joining the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne in the Falcons squad in the upcoming edition of the Lanka Premier League. Nissanka is hailed as one of the rising stars in Sri Lankan cricket. He is currently ranked number 8th in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings.
He, recently, grabbed eyeballs after notching his maiden century in ODI cricket in the recently-concluded ODI series against Australia. The Kandy Falcons franchise owner also expressed his delight over roping in the Sri Lankan opener and asserted that he will be a great asset to the team in the coming edition.
“Pathum’s inclusion will not only strengthen our batting but his recent experience playing in the Sri Lanka T20 team will be a huge asset to the team. I am sure the fans will be happy to see him in action for Kandy Falcons in the LPL,” Kandy franchisee owner Parvez Khan said to Newswire.
The 24-year-old is currently under isolation as he has tested positive for Covid-19. And thus, has been ruled out of the ongoing second Test match between Sri Lanka and Australia. For the second time in two consecutive matches, Oshada Fernando has been added as Covid substitute in the team. He, earlier, replaced Angelo Mathews in the first Test.
Pathum Nissanka batted in the second innings of the second Test. He could only manage to score 6 runs in 25 balls.
