Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (September 23) laid the foundation stone of an international cricket stadium. The new stadium is being built in the holy city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. This will be the third cricket stadium in the state after Lucknow and Kanpur. Notably, the project is expected to be budgeted at a whopping price of Rs. 451 crores.
At the event of laying the foundation stone, cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, and Dilip Vengsarkar also marked their presence. Legendary India cricketer Tendulkar also presented PM Narendra Modi with an exclusive Indian cricket team jersey which said “NAMO” with jersey number 1.
The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has reportedly acquired the land at the price of Rs.121 crores. The Indian cricket board is expected to spend Rs. 331 crores on the construction of the stadium which can accommodate approximately 30,000 spectators. The stadium will be built on the theme of the elements related to Lord Shiva such as crescent-shaped roof covers, floodlights shaped like Tridents, and various structures representing a Damru.
