In the 33rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 49 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. After being asked to bat first the Yellow Army posted a mammoth total of 235-4 in 20 overs. Opener Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube helped CSK with blistering half-centuries to post the huge total.

Earlier, after winning the toss KKR skipper Nitish Rana asked CSK to bat first. As the first team to bat, CSK got off to an incredible start as both openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway, added 73 runs in just 7.3 overs. Gaikwad got 35 runs off 20 balls in his innings with the help of three sixes and two boundaries before getting trapped by Suyash Sharma. Conway got to hit his fourth consecutive half-century as he continued to hammer KKR bowlers. Conway scored 56 runs off 47 balls in his innings with the help of three sixes and four boundaries.

After Conway's dismissal, Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube put on an incredible performance for the audience following his ejection. Rahane and Dube scored 85 runs off 32 balls to contribute to CSK's incredible total. Dube's innings saw him scoring 50 runs off 21 balls, thanks to two boundaries and five sixes. Rahane in his innings scored 71 runs off just 29 balls with a strike rate of 244.83. These innings helped CSK to post 235-4 in twenty overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders failed to hold their nerves while chasing a huge target

While Chasing a huge target of 236 runs KKR failed to hold nerves. The hosts got a terrible start as both of the openers were dismissed within the first eight balls. Sunil Narine and N Jagadeeshan scored 0 and 1 runs respectively before getting dismissed. After their dismissal, Venkatesh Iyer along with skipper Nitish Rana tried to rescue their team.

Rana in his innings scored 27 runs off 20 balls while Iyer scored 20 runs off 20 balls before getting dismissed. After their departure, Jason Roy along with Rinku Singh added 65 runs off 37 balls. Roy in his innings scored 61 runs off 26 balls with the help of five sixes and five boundaries. In the end, Rinku Singh tried to get some runs as he scored 53 runs off 33 balls. With this victory, CSK is now table toppers with 10 points in seven matches.
