India won the gold medal match in the women’s cricket final against Sri Lanka and scripted history. It is the first instance of Indian women’s team winning gold medal in the Asian Games. Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, India won the final by 19 runs on a slow wicket in Hangzhou. In the end, the total of 116 runs seemed to be enough for the Indian team.

Indian women’s team won the toss and elected to bat first. India lost the wicket of Shafali Verma quickly. The aggressive batter managed to score 9 runs in 15 balls. That was when Jemimah Rodrigues joined Smriti Mandhana in the middle. The two batters anchored the Indian innings on a slow pitch. The knocks of the two batters ensured that India achieved a par score in the match.

Mandhana scored 46 runs in 45 balls, which included 4 fours and a six. Rodrigues scored 42 runs in 40 balls, which included 5 fours. The wicket of Mandhana started a collapse for the Indian team. From 89/1 after 14.4 overs, India ended up scoring 116 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. For Sri Lanka, Udeshika Prabodhani, Sugandika Kumari, and Inoka Ranaweera claimed 2 wickets each.

Accurate bowling from the Indian unit

Chasing 117, Sri Lanka scored 12 runs in the first over and sent a mini scare to the Indian team. That was when Titas Sadhu bowled a sensational spell. The 18-year-old pacer claimed 3 wickets in her 4 overs and conceded only 6 runs including a maiden over. Sadhu was assisted well by the other bowlers, who bowled well collectively. After the early blip, India recovered well.

Rajeshwari Gaikwad claimed 2 wickets in her three overs. Devika Vaidya, Deepti Sharma, and Pooja Vastrakar claimed a wicket each. The trio bowled economical spells and did not allow Sri Lanka to have their say in the match. In the end, India won the match by 19 runs and clinched the gold medal, which was expected from them.
