‘Mankad’ is no more a term in cricket as the rules have been changed. As per the new rules, 'Mankad' is no longer under the 'Unfair Player' section and will be considered a legitimate run-out. It will now be called ‘run-out at non-striker’s end and has been the talk of the town, of late. It all started with Deepti Sharma's run-out at the non-striker’s end in the final ODI on September 24 against England Women.

Recently, Deepak Chahar tried to run-out Tristan Stubbs at the non-striker’s end as well during the third T20I against South Africa on October 4, Tuesday. Although Stubbs was out of the crease when Chahar let it go with a silent warning and smiled it off.

Brad Hogg, who took cognizance of the incident, took to Twitter to express concern over ‘Spirit of Cricket’. Highlighting that the batter has broken the law and not the bowling, Hogg said that the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ has become “redundant”.

“Chahar is praised for a good gesture, yet no dissapointment about the batters action. Batter breaks the law, bowler doesn't use the law. We don't accept umpires decision with use of DRS as well, "Spirit of cricket" has become redundant. #INDvsSA,” wrote Hogg on his Twitter account.

I don't think batters should go down the pitch: James Anderson

James Anderson, England’s lead pacer, said that it was not legitimate to dismiss the batter in such a way during the BBC Tailenders Podcast. Albeit he agreed that it was not right for the batter to leave the crease, Anderson said that it was not right to dismiss him either.

“I don't think batters should go down the pitch when the ball has not even delivered, but I don't think it should be a dismissal, there should be a warning or there can be penalty runs. That would be a better solution to it, just give them couple of warnings,” Anderson said in an interview on BBC Tailenders Podcast.
