Australia outplayed India on the first two days of the World Test Championship (WTC) final, making it harder for Rohit Sharma and co. to mount an unlikely comeback. The Australians added 142 runs to their overnight score of 327 for 3 and concluded their first innings with a highly competitive total of 469. This allowed their pacers to put pressure on India's top order, who struggled to put up a fight on the English pitch.

India's first loss came when skipper Rohit Sharma, who scored 15 runs off 26 balls, fell to an LBW trap by opposite captain Pat Cummins. Without much wait, India lost another wicket in the form of Shubman Gill, who was bowled by Scott Boland after misjudging the line.

The pacer, who replaced the injured Josh Hazlewood, delivered a fast ball outside off-stump that Gill deemed safe to leave. However, it nipped back to the stumps in no time, leaving the batter frustrated for being deceived in a crucial match. Fans on social media also could not keep calm as they brutally trolled the right-handed batter for getting out cheaply (13 off 15) in the Ultimate Test after an impressive showing in the Indian Premier League 2023.

Here's how fans reacted after Shubman Gill got out cheaply in the first innings of the WTC final:

Team India has a huge task on Day 3 to mount a comeback

India had high hopes on Cheteshwar Pujara, who played county cricket ahead of the WTC final. However, India's Test specialist also failed to cross the 20-run mark as he was dismissed in similar fashion to Gill after misjudging the line off Cameron Green's delivery. Things got worse when former Indian captain Virat Kohli was sent back by Mitchell Starc with an extra bounce delivery.

At 71/4, India was in trouble, but a fifty-run partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja gave the team some chance of staying in the game. However, just before stumps on Day 2, Nathan Lyon removed the all-rounder and gave India another heartbreak. India are still 318 runs behind and have a huge task ahead of them to make a comeback in the game.
