Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin predicted that two IPL teams will be in the hunt for a recently released IPL star. As per the 37-year-old Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings could enter into bidding during the IPL Auction 2024.
Over the weekend each of the ten teams named the players that have retained and released ahead of the next season. Chennai Super Kings as expected released Ben Stokes and Kyle Jamieson.
Gujarat Titans meanwhile shocked everyone by trading their skipper Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians. The deal shocked a lot of fans as Hardik Pandya was instrumental in making Gujarat Titans the team that they are in the two years they have been in the IPL.
Ravichandran Ashwin expects a bidding war for this player –
Veteran Indian bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin expects Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans to bid huge for Shahrukh Khan. The 28-year-old was released by Punjab Kings over the weekend.
While speaking on his YouTube channel Ashwin said “I can definitely see a war between CSK and Gujarat for Shahrukh Khan. Gujarat have let go of Hardik Pandya, Gujarat needs a player who can finish the innings, a sort of power player. And they need a power player. Shahrukh was at INR 9 Crores at Punjab Kings, and I thought he showed his skills pretty well. Is it a decent release? Because I think he might end up going for INR 12-13 Crores again"
The former CSK bowler also feels that Chennai might put in the extra yard to acquire Shahrukh Khan. The reason behind this is that CSK doesn’t have a local player and the Tamil Nadu all-rounder has a huge fan following in Chennai for his big-hitting skills.
“CSK might even take a chance of missing out on Mitchell Starc to get Shahrukh Khan because they don't have a local player or a presence. They went for Shahrukh Khan in the mega auction, and that's why I'm guessing so”
Shahrukh has played 33 games in the IPL for Punjab Kings and scored 426 runs. The 28-year-old sadly hasn’t scored a half-century in IPL yet with a best score of 47 and strikes the ball at 134.81 with a total of 26 fours and 28 sixes so far.
