New Zealand and Chennai Super Kings player Devon Conway has been ruled out of the first half of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). The tournament will begin on March 22 and conclude on May 26. The South Africa-born sustained a thumb injury during the second T20I against Australia. The left-hander missed the third T20I and the first Test.
The New Zealand Cricket (NZC) issued a statement, saying that Conway needs at least eight weeks to recover as his thumb needs to be operated. Talking about his IPL team, Chennai Super Kings will play the opening game of the 17th season against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at home. The Yellow Brigade, CSK will be the defending champions this year.
"BLACKCAPS opener Devon Conway will this week undergo surgery on the left thumb he damaged during the KFC T20I series against Australia."
"Following several scans and specialist advice, the decision was made to operate on Conway with a likely recovery period of at least eight weeks," read the statement.
Rachin Ravindra might replace Devon Conway at the top
Conway's opening partner in ODIs, Rachin Ravindra was brought by the defending champions in the player IPL 2024 player auction. The latter, who was discovered as the opening batter in white-ball cricket during the ODI World CUp last year, might play the same role as Conway.
