IPL 2024 is still some months away, but the preparations for the marquee event have already started in full flow. In the trading window for IPL 2024, Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya moved back to his old franchise Mumbai Indians amid all the drama surrounding the trade. The stage is all set for the upcoming IPL auction which is to take place next month in Dubai.
Although this time it’s supposed to be a mini-auction, it will be a quite significant one as most of the franchises have released some marquee players and some important spots in all franchises are up for grabs. As half of the battle in the IPL is won and lost at the auction table, and with 1166 players registering themselves for the auctions this time, the stage is set for an intense battle between teams to come up with the best combination.
77 spots in all the 10 teams are up for grabs in the upcoming auctions, and out of these, 30 slots could be filled with overseas players. Of the total players registering themselves for the marquee event, 25 of them have put their names in the highest 2 crore base price bracket which means that they could be bought in the auctions for a minimum of 2 crores.
Who are the most surprising inclusions and exclusions from the 2 crore bracket list?
One of the most surprising exclusions from the list of players that have a base price of 2 crores is Rachin Ravindra. The young Southpaw from New Zealand took the cricketing world by storm with his sensational batting in the ODI World Cup 2023 in India and was among the highest run-scorers in the World Cup. He is also a left-arm spinner which adds one more dimension to his abilities.
But surprisingly he has put himself in the 50 lakhs base price bracket, and surely he will get much more than that in the upcoming auctions as franchises will battle hard to get this young talent in their team.
Another name that must have surprised many would have been the inclusion of Kedhar Jadav in the 2 crore base price bracket. Despite his age and recent lack of IPL experience, veteran cricketer Kedar Jadhav has surprisingly set his base price at Rs 2 crore for the upcoming IPL auction. This bold decision has raised questions about whether any team will be willing to invest such a substantial amount in a player who may not be a guaranteed starter.
The list of players who have a base price of 2 crores are:
Harshal Patel, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav, Kedar Jadhav, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Sean Abbott, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith, Mustafizur Rahman, Tom Banton, Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Lockie Ferguson, Gerald Coetzee, Rilee Rossouw, Rassie van der Dussen, Angelo Mathews
