Why did Shubman Gill apologized to Kevin Pietersen after winning 2nd Test match at Vizag?

After his comeback ton against England in the 2nd test, Shubman Gill apologized to England's former batter Kevin Pietersen for not been able to meet him at the end of Day 3 as he had to go for scans of his right index finger.

India won the first test against England at Visakhapatnam comprehensively and leveled the five-match series by 1-1. Shubman Gill lit up the stadium with his staggering ton and played a significant role in getting India out of trouble in the second innings.

It was an important inning for Shubhman Gill's test career also as he was going through a slump in the test format with no fifty-plus score in the last 12 innings before the recent ton. Therefore, in the second Test against England, all eyes were on Shubman Gill, whose recent performances had raised concerns about his position in the team. 

In the first innings of the Test match, Gill showcased glimpses of his fluency, scoring 32 runs. While it was not a substantial contribution, it hinted at the talent that Gill possesses, leaving fans eager to see more. The turning point came with Kevin Pietersen's tweet in support of Gill after the first innings.

Pietersen drew parallels with the legendary Jacques Kallis backed with stats of both players in their initial matches, emphasizing that slow starts can pave the way for greatness. Gill's second innings was nothing short of spectacular. He silenced the doubters by scoring his second century, a commendable feat for the young cricketer. The innings showcased Gill's resilience and determination to bounce back.

After the knock, Pieterson wished to meet Shubman Gill after Day 3 of the 2nd test match to prove his faith in him right but Gill could not meet the veteran England batter as he had to go for scans on his right index finger. Post-match, Gill took a moment to apologize to Kevin Pietersen for not meeting him earlier. 

Pietersen, initially disappointed, later understood the circumstances that led to Gill's absence and appreciated the gesture. In his comments post-match, Gill expressed gratitude for Pietersen's support and reflected on the importance of taking time to settle down in Test cricket.

Shubman Gill spoke to the broadcaster after winning the match and said, "I am sorry for not meeting but I had to go for the scans on my injured finger, hence had to go."
