In addition to India’s wounds after a close loss against England in the 1st Test at Hyderabad, their premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been handed an official reprimand from the Apex Governing Council for the breach of Level 1 offence of the Apex Cricket Council’s code of conduct during the 1st test match.
Bumrah's particular breach was related to Article 2.12, which concerns "improper physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee, or any other individual (including a spectator) during an International Match."
The incident happened between Bumrah and Ollie Pope during the 81st over of the match when Bumrah obstructed the path of Ollie Pope which resulted in the collision between both the players.
Acknowledging his mistake Jasprit Bumrah accepted the charges levied on him by the match referee Richie Richardson thus eliminating any further reason for a formal hearing on the same matter. The charge was initiated by on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, along with third umpire Marais Erasmus and fourth umpire Rohan Pandit.
Typically, Level 1 offenses come with a minimum consequence of an official reprimand, a maximum sanction of a 50 per cent deduction from a player's match fee, and the assignment of one or two demerit points. Since, Jasprit Bumrah committed this offense only once in the last 24 months, only one demerit point has been added to his record.
What is Article 2.12
According to the Apex Cricket Council’s Code of Conduct for Players and Support Personnel, the violation of Article 2.12 means, any form of inappropriate physical contact is prohibited in cricket. Without limitation, Players will breach this regulation if they deliberately, recklessly, and/or negligently walk or run into or shoulder another Player or Umpire.
When assessing the seriousness of the breach, the following factors (without limitation) shall be taken into account: (i) the context of the particular situation, including, without limitation, whether the contact was deliberate (i.e. intentional), reckless, negligent, and/or avoidable; (ii) the force of the contract; (iii) any resulting injury to the person with whom contact was made; and (iv) the person with whom contact was made."
Cricket fans also expressed their views on the incident on social media. Here are some of the tweets on X:

He apologized straight away, but he did make the mistake.
That wasn’t deliberately done.

Didn’t expected this from such a seasoned campaigner like bumrah, that’s very unsportsmanlike
