The third T20I match of the series saw the Australia side register a thrilling five wickets over India at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. With the win the Australia team kept the series alive as they won the first match and took a 2-1 lead in the series of 5 T20I matches. Earlier, in the game, Australia captain Matthew Wade won the toss and opted to bowl first in the contest. Kane Richardson and Jason Behrendorff utilized the new ball effectively, causing trouble for the Indian top-order batsmen. Yashasvi Jaiswal attempted aggressive shots but fell in the second over, scoring 6 runs off 6 balls.
The wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan (0) struggled and was dismissed for a duck in the following over. Suryakumar Yadav and Ruturaj Gaikwad then steadied the innings by cautiously facing Behrendorff, who bowled with impressive rhythm. Suryakumar Yadav strategically attacked other bowlers to maintain the scoring momentum, while Ruturaj anchored one end. After the powerplay, the Indian captain pressed on the accelerator. Aaron Hardie removed Surya (39) in the 11th over, breaking the 57-run third-wicket partnership.
Australia faced more challenges as Ruturaj Gaikwad dramatically escalated the scoring, punishing the bowlers. Tilak Varma (31*) played a supporting role. Ruturaj's explosive innings of 123* (57) included 13 fours and 7 sixes, propelling India to an imposing total of 222. Interestingly, Ruturaj smashed Maxwell for 30 runs.
Australia chased down the score with five wickets in hand
In pursuit of a mammoth total, the Australia team were never always in with the change as they kept on smashing every Indian bowler. The India bowlers were all over the pitch and hence were smashed everywhere on the ground. Opening the innings for the first time in the series, Travis Head and Aaron Hardie gave Australia a strong start, smashing 40 runs in just 3 overs in the second innings. However, Arshdeep Singh claimed the first breakthrough for India in the 5th over by dismissing Hardie for 16 runs.
In the very next over, Head also departed after scoring 35 runs, featuring 8 fours. Josh Inglis, Australia's centurion in the first match, was bowled by Ravi Bishnoi in the 7th over. Despite continuous dismissals of players like Stoinis and Tim David, Maxwell maintained the momentum. Captain Matthew Wade played a crucial role towards the end, and Maxwell reached his century in the last over, securing the victory on the final ball. Prasidh Krishna was tasked with defending 21 runs in the last over, but he couldn't prevent Australia from clinching the win. Let us look at how Twitter has reacted to this loss from India;
