India will square off against Afghanistan in the first T20I of the three-match series at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Afghanistan as a T20 side has grown by leaps and bounds in the past few years and it is their strongest format. This series against Afghanistan is India’s last international assignment in the T20 format before the T20 World Cup and they would like to find their team combination in this format before the marquee event. The conditions at Mohali are challenging for both teams as North India going through a cold wave.

During this part of the year, in North India due sets in and plays a vital role in a T20 game and keeping it in account India captain Rohit Sharma elected to bat first after winning the toss at Mohali. But the more surprising stuff for the fans at the toss was the exclusion of the explosive opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Jaiswal’s Injury Scare

According to BCCI statement of X formerly Twitter, Yashavi Jaiswal is suffering from a sore right groin which makes him unavailable for selection in the first T20I in Mohali. Thus, Shubman Gill will open with Rohit Sharma in the absence of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Before the match, speculation was rife about who would open with Rohit and with the injury of Jaiswal, it became pretty easy for the management to choose the opening pair.

Jaiswal's most recent appearance in T20Is was during the South Africa series, where he delivered an impressive performance in the concluding match of the three-game T20I series against the Proteas. The dynamic batsman managed to score 60 runs from 41 deliveries, showcasing his skills with three sixes and six fours.

India has gone with a combination of three all-rounders and three bowlers for the Afghanistan T20I. Shivam Dubey has finally got an opportunity to prove his contention for the spot of Hardik Pandya whereas Axar Patel and Washington Sundar filled up the spin all-rounders spot.
