KL Rahul has been out of the squad for a while now. He was all set to be a part of the team India T20I squad for the West Indies series before Covid-19 ruled him out. The batter sustained an injury right before the T20I series against South Africa in June. He was under rehabilitation at the National cricket academy in Bangalore.

However, at the very last minute, he was ruled out of the T20I squad for West Indies due to Covid. There were speculations earlier that he might lead Team India for the Zimbabwe tour. However, the latter has been left out of the squad.

Following his exclusion, the speculations started surfacing on social media. Some believed that it was for his marriage while some believed that he might be injured again. KL Rahul, however, has now come out with a detailed explanation behind his omission in the ODI squad. He made a post that thrashed all the rumours.

“Hey guys. I wanted to clarify a couple of things about my health and fitness. My surgery in June was successful and I had begun training with the hope of returning to national duty for the teams tour of the West Indies. Unfortunately, as I was nearing a return to full fitness, I test positive for Covid-19,” Rahul said on his social media post.

“This naturally pushes things back by a couple of weeks, but I aim to recover as quickly as possible and be available for selection as soon as I can. To represent the national team is the highest honour and I cannot wait to get out back there in blue. See you soon, KLR,” Rahul concluded.

His post put an end to all the speculations that were surfacing on social media. It means that Shikhar Dhawan will wear the captain’s hat once again for the Zimbabwe tour. Meanwhile, Rahul Tripathi has got his first ever ODI call up.

Washington Sundar will return for the Zimbabwe series. And the star Indian pacer, Deepak Chahar makes it into the squad after a long halt. India will play a three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe starting on August 18th.
