Shikhar Dhawan became the first Indian captain to whitewash West Indies in an ODI series away from home. A member of the selection committee has revealed to the IndieSport that the selectors might hold talks with him. He said that the talks will be about his future in the squad.

He added that there is no problem between Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. The member of the selection committee admitted that they both have different ideas. He assured that Dhawan will do fine and if needed, Vikram and Rahul Dravid may hold talks with him.

“There is no problem between Shikhar and Rohit. It’s just that both have different ideas. It is not a bad thing. But yes, we will have a sit down with Shikhar probably after the Zimbabwe tour on understanding his plans. If he needs to change his batting approach, Vikram and Rahul are there to talk to him. We won’t interfere,” the member of the selection committee revealed.

He added that with the likes of Shubhman, Ishan and KL Rahul, Dhawan cannot continue with the same strategy. The southpaw has not been a part of the T20I squad in recent times, and has not been a part of the test squad for years either. With aggressive batters like Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul and Shubhman Gill knocking on the doors, Dhawan might have to find a way to get going for the Indian team.

“There is no reason to panic. Shikhar is doing just fine. Yes, the demand of the game is now such that you will have to be quick off the blocks. With KL, Shubman and Ishan around, Dhawan will need to understand that demand. I am sure, he will do just fine,” the member revealed to IndieSport. India won the third ODI by 119 runs (DLS method) and won the series 3-0.

Shikhar Dhawan became the first Indian captain to whitewash West Indies in an ODI series at their home. In the rain-interrupted third match, Shubhman Gill remained not out on 98 at the end of the first innings. The West Indies were bowled out for 137 runs.
