Graeme Smith backs this Indian batter to be part of the 20-20 World Cup squad

Former South African skipper and chief of Cricket South Africa, Graeme Smith has backed the Young Indian opener Ishan Kishan to be part of India's squad for the 20-20 World Cup 2022.  The former South Africa cricketer said that the wicketkeeper-batter would be one of the prime choices for India to include in the squad for the 20-20 World Cup 2022, which is set to be played later at the end of this year.

Notably, Ishan has impressed and amazed everyone with his stellar performances in the ongoing five-match T20I series against South Africa. He is the leading run-scorer in the series followed by the visitors’ batter Heinrich Klassen. Smith has lauded the 24-year-old for his amazing outings in the T20I series.

To note, Ishan scored nearly 400 runs in the recently concluded 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League. He played for Mumbai this year. Smith heaped his praises on the young prodigy and appreciated his skills as well.

He's doing what he can do - Smith

“He’s doing what he can do. All you can do as a young player is performing, and he’s doing it. He’s putting his hand up, and he’s applying a lot of pressure on the selectors, the captains, the coaches,” Smith was quoted as saying to cricket.com.

“You have to be aware that in the background, there are very experienced and very successful cricketers who will come back into this Indian lineup. Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli are around, I don’t what the plan in the T20 cricket with him is,” former Proteas skipper added in his remarks for Ishan Kishan.

Along with the consistency in batting, the left-handed has also provided a left-right combination to the Indian team. He can make a good pair with Rohit Sharma to open the inning for India. Smith also stressed the fact that it would be a tough task for the Indian selectors to ignore Ishan while picking the team for the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
