Fathers and sons playing cricket is not an uncommon thing. Here we look at five father son pairs who gave played cricket for their country.

The field of cricket is solely dependent on one’s talent and consistency. This is one place where one’s determination is tested to succeed at the highest level. Nepotism hasn't been prevalent in cricket.

A lot of other factors such as luck, hard work, dedication, and longevity come into play to make a successful career in the sport. Over the years, we have had father-son duos play cricket but not all have been successful.

In this article, we take a look at 5 father-son pairings who have played International cricket:

  1. Sunil Gavaskar and Rohan Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar was the one, who was the ultimate ‘little master' and showed that India were capable of making giant strides by taking on the fearsome West Indian pacers on just his first tour to the Caribbean. He scored 10,122 runs in Tests and played 125 Test matches for the country.

Sunil Gavaskar has also scored 34 Test centuries for India. Rohan Gavaskar had represented India but did not have a long flourishing career as he played in 11 ODIs for India.

2. Bazid Khan and Majid Khan -

Majid Khan was considered as one of the best batters in the world during his time. He had a long first-class career that spanned 18 years. He played 63 Test matches for Pakistan, scoring 3931 with eight centuries.

His son Bazid Khan did not have a very successful career for Pakistan as he played only five ODIs and a solitary Test for his country. While he was not a force to reckon with while playing but has made a name for himself as a commentator.

3. Kevin Curran and Sam and Tom Curran

Kevin Curran was one of the finest cricketers produced by Zimbabwe. It was a shame that he played only 11 ODIs. He was famous for scoring a half-century against India and taking three wickets in the 1983 World Cup. He also starred in a 70-run partnership with Duncan Fletcher which helped the Chevrons beat the Kangaroos by 13 runs in the same tournament.

Sam Curran and Tom Curran, sons of Kevin Curran, are currently playing for England. Sam Curran is a left-arm bowler and left-handed batter who has got 47 wickets in Tests with 815 runs in the format. He has been vital in white and red ball cricket for England.

Tom Curran has had a relatively less pronounced career for England as compared to his younger brother. He has scored 66 runs in Tests and picked up two wickets. When it comes to ODI cricket, he has made 303 runs and claimed 34 wickets in the format so far.

4. Roger Binny and Stuart Binny

Roger Binny was one of the vital cogs in India’s wheel in their 1983 World Cup campaign. He picked up 18 wickets in the prudential cup and was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament. He has scored 629 runs in the 72 ODIs that he played and also has taken 77 wickets in the 50-over format. He also scored 830 runs and picked up 47 wickets in 27 Test matches. Roger Binny is the current president of the Indian Cricket Board.

His son, Stuart Binny did not have such an acclaimed career as his father did, but he did have his eureka moment when he picked up 6 wickets for just four runs against Bangladesh in an ODI. That spell at one point in time was the best bowling figures by an Indian.

Chris Broad played for England in 25 Tests and 34 ODIs, scoring 1661 runs and 1361 runs respectively. He was also a part of the commentary team of the BBC and also has been a match referee. He equaled Jack Hobbs and Wally Hammond’s record for scoring three successive centuries in three consecutive Tests in an Ashes Series.

Stuart Broad has been one of the most celebrated bowlers in England cricket. He has picked up 566 wickets in Tests. Broad formed one of the most destructive fast-bowling pairings with James Anderson. As a pair, they picked up 895 wickets in 117 Tests. Broad has also played in 121 ODIs and picked up 178 wickets in the white ball format.
