India to face Pakistan in the opener

With regards to the Indian team, they will face Pakistan in the upcoming mega tournament. Rohit Sharma and his men will face Pakistan in the first match on October 23 at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Men in Blue will face the Babar Azam-led side after winning the T20I series against South Africa

However, the team will have a lot of concerns to address going into the tournament. Commenting on their recent 2-1 result against South Africa, Rohit Sharma said in the post-match interview that irrespective of the result, “there was always room for improvement”.

Further, the skipper said that they “need to find a bowler who has the experience of bowling in Australia” and highlighted the lack of experience in the Indian pace attack.

“Lot of the guys haven't been to Australia, that's why we are going there early. We want to play on the bouncy pitches of Perth, we want to see what we can do there. Only 7,8 members of the squad have been to Australia, so we have organised a few practice games,” said Rohit further.

India will participate in the tournament in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, the lead pacer. The selectors are yet to name the replacement for the injured pace spearhead.

Pakistan, on the other hand, will enter the tournament after competing in a tri-series against New Zealand alongside Bangladesh. Men in Green’s recent outing against England ended with a 4-3 defeat and the team would look to turn things around in the tri-series and the 20-20 World Cup, thereafter.
