India might be busy playing the Test series against England right now, but the T20 World Cup 2024 has been in the talks as well. This was the tournament that started putting Indian cricket back on the map after a disappointing 2007 World Cup exit. The T20 World Cup in the same year was one of the most inspiring and greatest tales of the tournament. However, India has still not won this prestigious tournament since the Inaugural season. The T20 World Cup will be played in the West Indies and the United States of America and the Indian schedule has also been decided. The squad is still yet to be announced for the tournament which will be starting in June.
We might be talking about the likes of MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh in the 2007 season, but there is also one player who also contributed to the team. It was none other than current skipper Rohit Sharma, who was one of the upcoming talents of that time. This was the early days for the hitman when he was the playing eleven in the England game, but did not get the opportunity to bat. The next game saw him play a useful knock of 50 from 40 balls to get India to a respectable total vs South Africa. Rohit got the opportunity to lead the side in the 2022 tournament as well where they were finally defeated by England in the semi-final.
Rohit confirmed as India skipper
There was not a lot of talk about the squad for the T20 World Cup by the Indian Cricket Board yet. However, board secretary Jay Shah has finally opened up on it during the renaming of the Niranjan Stadium stating “ Main ap ko promise karna chahta hoon ki Rohit Sharma ki kaptaani mein 2024 mein Barbados mein hum zaroor Bharat ka jhanda gadenge (I want to promise you that we’ll lift the trophy in Barbados in the 2024 T20 World Cup under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy).”This confirms that Rohit will be leading the side once again in the 2024 season as well. Rohit's reaction was a sight to see as well.

The people have finally got some confirmation that the captain of the side is going to be none other than the hitman himself. Rohit has been a successful captain so far even in T20 cricket. He will be wanting to get his hands on that trophy. The last two tournaments might have featured some great performances by the Men in Blue but the trophy has been eluding them. Everyone will finally want them to lift the trophy and end their trophy drought. This also might be the last chance for Rohit as well to finally achieve some glory.
