David Warner bid adieu to both Test and ODI formats following the recently concluded Test series against Pakistan. Warner, who had a remarkable career, accumulated 8,786 runs in 112 Test matches and 6,932 runs in 161 ODIs. Despite stepping away from these formats, he remains committed to representing Australia in T20Is, especially with the impending T20 World Cup just a few months away.
Post his retirement from Tests and ODIs, Warner is now shifting his focus towards T20 cricket for the latter part of his cricketing journey. The explosive opener is gearing up for the upcoming International League T20 (ILT20) second season, slated to kick off on January 19.
Although Warner is expected to skip the T20I series during the West Indies tour of Australia, he is set to join the Dubai Capitals for the ILT20. The left-handed batsman will rejoin the Australian T20I squad for the series against New Zealand in away conditions.
David Warner’s grandeur BBL entry
After stepping down from two international formats, David Warner has decided to participate in the Big Bash League (BBL) by representing the Sydney Sixers. His entry into the BBL was no ordinary affair instead he grandly arrived at the stadium via a helicopter.
Despite attending his brother's wedding in Hunter Valley earlier on Friday, the 37-year-old displayed his dedication by leaving the celebration early and opting for a helicopter ride to reach the match venue. A video shared by the Big Bash League captured Warner's helicopter circling the SCG before landing, drawing attention from media and security personnel present to welcome the renowned cricketer. Dressed in his training gear, Warner descended from the helicopter, exchanging waves with onlookers at the SCG before making his way to the dressing room. Watch the video here:
David Warner’s close friend and teammate Sean Abbott shared his views on Warner’s entry by calling it ‘Hollywood style. While attributing David Warner's skills and his grand entry, Sean Abbott said, “He is a bit Hollywood, isn’t he, that’s very Davey. I got the Lime bike in today and I’ll be doing the same tomorrow night and riding out the gate as Davey lands,” Sean Abbott told reporters.”
He further added, “I’m glad they are making it happen because think everyone in the country who is a fan of cricket wants to see David Warner in the BBL and I’m really looking forward to coming up against him. One of the best players in the world and has been for a long time.”
