Australia have won the series by a clean sweep against Pakistan and have given a perfect sendoff to the left-handed pocket dynamo David Warner. Warner emerged as the 2nd highest run scorer in the series as well with 299 runs at an average of 49.83 which includes one century and one half century. After this series, Warner has retired from both OD’s and Test’s and will be available only for the T20I’s and franchise cricket in the future. It has been a great career for Warner as he will finish his magnificent 112-match career with over 8700 runs at an average of 44.6. Ending it with a great 3-0 series win is a happy and emotional moment for the great opening batter.
Warner has been one of the best batters for the Aussies throughout his career scoring over 18500 international runs being only under the likes of the great Ricky Ponting. He has also been part of two World Cups, 1 T20 World Cup and 1 World Test Championship victory for Australia. It has been one of the most decorated careers for the 37-year-old batter who is close to the end of his career. It will be interesting to know what the flamboyant opening batter will have planned after his retirement from International cricket.
Warner’s future ambitions
While talking to Fox Cricket Warner was asked about his future plans as well after retirement, where the thoughts of coaching came as a question to which the former answered the question saying “ Yeah, I’ve got ambitions later down the track to potentially coach, I’ll have to speak with the wife first to see if I’m allowed a few more days away.” This answer from Warner has not ruled that option out of the question and will be thinking about coaching in the future.
The future of David Warner as a coach could be a great challenge and opportunity for him as well. He has already shown what he is capable of as a player and a skipper as well. However, we will still have to wait for the final decision since being a coach could also cause him to stay away from his family as well, with whom he will also spend some time he has lost while playing for the franchise and country. The personality and experience he possesses will surely be a great asset in the future if he still wants to be close to the game.
