India won the Border Gavaskar Trophy on Australian soil for the first time in its history in 2018/19. The event happened on this day in 2019 when the fourth Test between the two sides was washed out due to rain. The result was in favour of India as they won the series 2-1. It was considered to be one of the greatest performances of the Indian team in Test cricket. What happened in the 2020/21 series is now a part of the history. But 2018/19 was a huge win as well.

All the Indian players were in their best form in the series. The only department that India struggled with was the opening batting. But even in that, India got Mayank Agarwal, who did well to give good starts to the side in the last 2 Tests. The bowling from India was sensational. Some of the key batters and All-rounders gave good performances as well. Rishabh Pant did enough as a WK batter. A good performance from all the units ensured that India created history on the tour, which was actually expected.

On the occasion of 4 years of India winning the series, here are the Top 3 best performances from the players for India from the series.

3. Virat Kohli at Perth

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli batted very well in Perth in 2018. The wicket was not easy to bat on given the seam for the pacers and uneven bounce which was not usual. The batters were never set in the middle and were always in doubt. Australia had posted a good total of 326 runs on the board in their first innings. Replying to it, India lost both its openers quickly.

Coming in at 8/2, the star batter scored 123 runs in 257 balls. There was only little support from the other end for Virat in the form of Ajinkya Rahane who also scored a fifty. India ended up scoring 283 runs. India had to chase 286 runs at the venue which was not easy. In the end, India were reduced to just 140 runs. Virat was the pick of the batters in the match for his sensational hundred.

2. Jasprit Bumrah at Melbourne

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah was one of the best performers for India in the series. The star pacer was in the first year of his Test career at the highest level. Yet, he had already shown a lot of promise as a pacer. In SA and England, the star pacer had proven himself as a bowler who can run through the batting lineups. His spell against Australia at Melbourne was the best for a long time in the format.

After scoring 443 runs with the bat, India needed wickets from its bowlers to make inroads into the match. Bumrah did exactly that. The unorthodox pacer claimed 6/33 with the ball in his spell of 15.5 overs. It gave a mammoth lead of 294 runs in the first innings for India. India posted 106 runs with the bat and gave a target of 400 runs to chase. Bumrah was at the batters yet again and claimed 3/53 in the second innings.

1. Cheteshwar Pujara at Adelaide

Cheteshwar Pujara

Cheteshwar Pujara was the player of the tournament by a mile. The gritty batter gave his career-best performance in the series against Australia. The series gave him the legacy of a great Test batter. The best performance from the batter in the series came at Adelaide. India had to win the first Test to get a good start in the series. Things got tricky on the very first day.

India were reduced to 41/4 in the first session. The onus was on Pujara to take India home. The star batter did exactly that with his gritty batting. In difficult conditions to bat, the Indian number 3 scored 123 runs in 246 balls. India got a slender lead of 15 runs in the Test. In the second innings, Pujara was at the bowlers yet again and scored 71 runs in 204 balls. India went on to clinch the Test match by 31 runs.
