The 3rd Test between India and England has already begun with India choosing to bat and making 4 changes in their playing XI. The talk of Sarfaraz Khan getting his debut in Test Cricket has finally come true with his family being pleased to witness this moment as well. But there is another young player who will be making his debut. The second player in this Test match to make his debut by replacing KS Bharat is 23-year-old batter Dhruv Jurel. The story of this young and upcoming player is really inspiring as well.

Dhruv currently plays first-class cricket for Uttar Pradesh. Dhruv finally got his time in the limelight after getting his opportunity in the Indian Premier League(IPL) last season. Jurel was picked in the Rajasthan Royals squad and was one of the best impact players in the league. Jurel also brought his great form in first-class cricket as well where he has scored 790 runs in 15 games at an average of 46.47. Looking at these numbers it isn’t surprising that he finally gets a spot in the Test side.

Family back story

Jurel is the son of a retired Army havildar Nem Singh, who was a Kargil War veteran. As usual, Nem wanted his son to follow the same legacy, but the love of cricket took over the aspirations of his father. Even when Nem was told about the talent of his son, he was still worried about his son’s future, saying, “No one from my family has played cricket. Everyone who saw him bat said, ‘ladka achha hai, aap ise cricket mein daalo’. But I’m a father and was worried about his future too. Cricket nahi hua toh kya hoga (what if he didn’t make it big in cricket)? Dhruv was not that good in studies either.”

That was not all since the game of cricket was expensive as well, the family had to take certain measures. One of them was to pawn his mother’s jewellery as well to buy his kit bag. With seeing their son in the India jersey, the family will be very proud of their son and will be relieved that all their sacrifices have not gone in vain. This is a great story of an aspiring cricketer who has gone onto achieve his goal of playing for his nation in a series against one of the top sides in Test cricket. We wish Dhruv all the best for his future in the game and hope he achieves more success.
