The pain of losing the 2023 World Cup final is still very deep and heartbreaking for every fan and player. The World also had the best winning streak India could possibly have with 10 wins out of 10 games. Everything seemed to go well for India till the World Cup final when everything fell apart. Whether it was batting, bowling or fielding everything was going well for the men in blue, where they finished top of the table as well with an undefeated streak going into the final. The highest run scorer and wicket taker also featured Indian players as well and everyone had high hopes that this would be India’s 3rd World Cup win. However, on the day of the final, the Australians got the better of them.
The Test series in South Africa is also coming up with Rohit Sharma once again at the helm of affairs. This will be another challenge for them as they have never won a Test series in South Africa. This two-match series can be the day when they can finally get their long-awaited series win in the Rainbow Nation in the longest format. This will also be a chance for Rohit Sharma and co to overcome the World Cup loss and create history in this series by defeating the Proteas on their home turf.
Rohit Sharma on World Cup loss and moving on
Rohit has given his views on the World Cup loss which surely must have broken his heart as well as he led the side during the World Cup. The India skipper gave his brief description of his World Cup journey saying “At times I thought we did everything we could from our side if someone asked me what went wrong because we won 10 games and in those 10 games, yes, we made mistakes. But those mistakes happen in every game. You cannot have a perfect game. You can have a near-perfect game but never a perfect game." Rohit also mentioned that it was really difficult for him to come back from this loss as well and how he managed to gain some support.
Rohit also articulated on how he got that motivation to move on stating “It was just pure love from the people that I met and it was wonderful to see that. So, you know, it gives you motivation to get back and start working again and look for another ultimate prize." This means that Rohit will be looking forward to this Test series and will look to create history and earn redemption by defeating the Proteas at home for the first time. Let’s hope that like the ODI series, this could be another success story for India.
