Pat Cummins has reacted to the reports which have claimed the potential return of Neil Wagner to Tests. The Australian skipper was in the press conference ahead of the second Test. Australia currently leads the series 1-0 and has a good chance of sealing the series. If Wagner makes it to the team, the chances of Australia might be dented.

The left-arm pacer recently announced his retirement following discussions with the management of New Zealand. However, the latest injury of Will ORouke might force the home side to consult Wagner to return from retirement. It seems like the home side does not have a better option to be the replacement for ORouke at the moment. The next few days could solve the queries of the fans.

ORouke has suffered a hamstring tear in the first Test. His position in the team for the 2nd Test against Australia is likely to be assessed in the next few hours. However, the reports claim that ORouke is unlikely to take part in the second Test. The sources have opined that Wagner might be recalled by New Zealand for the second Test, given the dire situation and the experience of the star pacer.

'If he’s your next best bowler that you think is going to perform, then go for it' - Pat Cummins

Cummins was asked to give his opinion on the potential return of Wagner. The winner of the ODI World Cup 2023 cheekily regarded it as the world's shortest retirement. The Australian skipper felt that if NZ sees him to be the best player available to be in the team, they should go for him. Cummins added that Wagner is full of energy and good to chat with the left-arm pacer.

"World’s shortest retirement. I mean, why not? If he’s your next best bowler that you think is going to perform, then go for it. I’ve faced him before. It’d be good to see. He’s high energy. It’s been good fun chatting to him each morning out here, so see how he goes," said Cummins in the press conference. Tim Southee would be key in deciding on Wagner.
