Sandeep Lamichhane convicted of rape

Through the cricketing world, we have come across some talented players with immense skills. Some of these cricketers have also been from non-Test playing nations or associates in other words. These players might not be from the big nations, but the T20 leagues make sure that they are never forgotten. One of these cricketers is Sandeep Lamichhane, who is a wily leg spinner from Nepal. He is currently one of their best players right now and has led the side as well. There is no T20 franchise league that Lamichhane has not played in, whether it is the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia, the Indian Premier League (IPL) or the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). He is also the first cricketer from Nepal to play in the IPL at the age of 17 for the Delhi Capitals(DC).

This is not the only record held by the cricketer since he is the highest wicket-taker for Nepal in International cricket with over 200 wickets in international cricket and also the first Nepal cricketer to reach 200 wickets in T20. It is safe to say that Lamichhane’s career has been progressing brilliantly. Unfortunately, the 23-year-old cricketer has got himself in some legal trouble that not only affects his career but his personal life as well. This might be the darkest moment for the upcoming Nepali star from Syangja.

Lamichhane’s conviction

Lamichhane was arrested as soon as he returned from the Caribbean where he was playing the CPL. This was a long drawn-out case, and he was released on the 12th of January 2022 by the Patan High Court. The judges released him on a bail bond of 2 million with conditions based on the petition filed by the cricketer. However, the Kathmandu District Court passed the order on November 4 2022 to send him to the Sudhara-based central jail. While the Kathmandu district attorney filed a case on him on August 21 2023, the minor also filed a case on September 6. Lamichhane was arrested on the 6th of October at the airport when he was returning from Trinidad and Tobago after playing the CPL.

Due to this his bank account and the property of Lamichhane have been frozen. This is a sad state of affairs as the 23-year-old still had a lot of cricket left in him. This is the moment where the sportsman not only will have to be away from the game for a long time, but also rectify his personal life and the media criticism that will surround him during the ongoing case. This is a moment that is bigger than any injury that keeps the sportsman out as this will also mentally affect him throughout his life.
