Mohammed Shami ruled out of IPL 2024 due to ankle injury

The Indian Premier League(IPL) 2024 is set to take place and now it is time to talk about a team that has surprised as soon as its come. It is none other than the Gujarat Titans. The team has surprised everyone on their debut season when they went onto win the title in 2022. Even the next season proved to be great for the team as they were runner ups after losing to the Chennai super Kings in the final. There are some changes made to the squad which also includes a change in skipper with Shubman gill set to lead the side in the upcoming tournament.

Though Gill was one of the star performers of the league last season, we cannot forget the contribution of Mohammed Shami. Shami was the other trumps card for the Gujarat side with his artistic seam bowling. He went onto take 28 wickets in the season not only being the highest wicket take in the team, but also winning the purple cap. Last season is where the paceman was at his best with the new ball where he continuously took wickets in the powerplay.

Shami was as usual retained by the franchise for the following season. However, the Titans have now got one of their major shocks since Shami is now ruled out of the upcoming league due to injury. Shami has been suffering from an ankle injury due to which he also had to miss out in the last two Test series for India as well. The news was given by a Indian Cricket board official to PTI regarding his injury and chances of playing in the tournament.

This is a big setback for Gujarat, who will miss the services of one of their best bowlers in the league. They will have to look through their options in their squad once again. There are chances that Umesh Yadav or Kartik Tyagi in place of the experienced pacer. These are some problems that the franchise will have to face going forward in the season. Let’s hope they still keep surprising us with their performances regardless of the setback.
